1st:

Everyone please welcome Lee Nelson as our newest club member. We are still processing his paperwork, but he will be eligible to play in the July event. Lee is a solid player, in which some of our members have had the opportunity to play with him.

Subparboys Club Update!

- ATTENTION SUBPARBOYS MEMBERS!! -

In addition to our Club Championship to be held at the beautiful Pala Mesa Resort on 7/26-27, we are now pleased to announce an official kick-off of a year-long points competition where all members in good standing will earn points that will roll up to a season ending points championship. The officers of the Subparboys Golf Club have authorized and commissioned prizes and a trophy to be awarded at our last event of the season to the player who has earned the most points based on participation in our monthly club events. Total points for each event are based on # of participants and their net scores.

Example:

8 members playing at any given event would result in the following point distribution based on order of finish:

1st place = 8 points

2nd place = 7 points

3rd place = 6 points

4th place = 5 points

5 place = 4 points

6th place = 3 points

7th place = 2 points

8th place = 1 point

Because we've finalized the details of this new club points competition in the middle of the season, we've decided to insure that all members who have contributed to the success of this club in 2008 will be recognized with points for those full club events held in February, March, April & May. Every member has a chance to win this thing with our June event (tentatively scheduled for Brookside) preceding the July Championship where we will hold a Saturday event for regular points on 7/26 and double points to be awarded the winner of our Club Championship on Sunday, 7/27.

Please note that our February event held at Mile Square was a rain out. Every member who showed up and attempted to complete the round was awarded 3 points for participation regardless of final score.

Club News!

Our Summer Series is now in full swing with 3 events complete leaving 3 to go including our Championship event (worth double SS points!!). Those members who participated at Meadowlark and Goose Creek will receive full participation points towards the Summer Series Competition that wraps up on the weekend of July 26/27 at the Club Championship Tournament will be held at the beautiful Pala Mesa resourt. A Summer Series Event Champion will be crowned alongside our Club Champion. Who knows? If you played during the year and win the big event, you might go home with all the hardware and the glory!

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!

We are working hard to provide a reliable club event schedule for the remainder of the year. This requires a lot of planning and hard work on the part of our event chairman (Wayne) and your fellow members. Please mark you calendars for the following dates/locations of our final regular events of the Summer Series: May 18th @ Dad Miller (Reggie is working with Wayne to insure we have at least 3 tee times) June 22nd @ Los Verdes (Wayne is doing his best to work this one out and if all goes well we will get to play one of the most popular courses in SoCal!) July 26/27 @ Pala Mesa (Club Championship and Summer Series Finals) These dates are firm and we expect as many members as can possibly make it to come out and join us at these events. A golf club is only as strong as its membership and playing golf is what this club is about. Planning far enough in advance and limiting our attention to monthly events like this should provide each of our members with ample opportunity to participate actively in this golf club. Wayne will continue to send the announcements out with the details but we ask that you simply reply to Wayne directly instead of copying the entire membership. Directions:

From the Los Angeles area: There are two routes, depending on where you live. Driving time ranges from about one-and-a-half hours to a little over two hours.

From the west side and beach communities: Take I-5 south and get off at Mission Avenue-Highway 76. Proceed east on 76 for 18 miles. Turn left on Old Highway 395. Continue for two miles and Pala Mesa Resort will be on the left.

From central/eastern Los Angeles communities and the San Fernando Valley: Take I-15 South and get off at the Mission Road-Fallbrook exit. Proceed to stop sign and turn right and then first left on Old Highway 395. Continue for two miles and Pala Mesa Resort will be on the right.

From the Orange County area About one to one-and-a-half hours. Take I-5 south and get off at Mission Avenue-Highway 76. Proceed east on 76 for 18 miles. Turn left on Old Highway 395. Continue for two miles and Pala Mesa Resort will be on the left.

From the San Bernardino and Inland Empire: areas About one-and-a-half hours to a little over two hours. Take I-15 south and get off at the Mission Road-Fallbrook exit and turn right. 2/25/2008 Club-Update

Hello Gentlemen,

We are in the process of setting up a golf outing for the 24th of February. Tee times are TBD for now, but Reggie has so kindly offered to set up three tee times at Dad Miller. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in this event. Also, I have taken the SCGA / USGA Handicap training session, in which there are some additional guidelines the Subparboys Committee must adhere to, as well as for the members of the club. I am currently waiting on my test results in order to obtain administrative access to the SCGA Handicap system.

Updates:

John, Dan and I will be putting a packet together for every club member. I am targeting to have these packets completed by the 24th for distribution. This packet will contain basic information such as how to properly fill out a score card, manually calculating your Course Handicap Index and so on....
I believe no one has received any bag tags. I have ordered additional bag tags for all registered members.
John, Dan and I have also decided to update out Subparboys blog website, in order to post key club information. Our goal is to have this site updated once a month at a minimum.
We will need to finalize the 2008 Handicap Committee members and Tournament / Event Committee Members. These committees are very inportant to the clubs operations, as well as making it fun for every club member. By attending the training session, there are many facets of running a club. John, Dan and I would be stretched if we had to do this ourselves. In short, we are looking for vaulenteers....!!

Articles and By-laws

Article I - NAME
The name of this golf club shall be the “Subparboys” Golf Club.

Article II - PURPOSE
FIRST: To stimulate interest in golf among friends and business associates by bringing together a group of golfers desirous of forming a golfing organization.
SECOND: To promote and foster among the members a closer bond and fraternity for their joint and mutual benefit, and to promote and conserve the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf as embodied in its ancient and honorable traditions.
THIRD: To encourage conformance to the USGA Rules of Golf by creating a representative authority.
FOURTH: To maintain a uniform system of handicapping as set forth in the USGA Handicap System and issue USGA Handicap Indexes to the members.
FIFTH: To provide an authoritative body to govern and conduct club competitions.

Article III - MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. Membership shall be available to all (men/women) 18 years of age or older. There shall be a least 10 members with a maximum membership of (30).
Section 2. Memberships in the club are individual and non-transferable.
Section 3. Only golfers with a reasonable and regular opportunity to play golf with fellow members and who can personally return scores for posting may be members and receive USGA/SCGA Handicap Indexes from the club. “Reasonable and regular” is defined as participation in at least 50% of sanctioned club events annually.
Section 4. Membership confers no voice in the operation of neither any golf courses, clubhouses nor any facilities of the courses.
Section 5. Membership confers no special privileges in connection with any golf course.
Section 6. Memberships in the club are for a calendar year only, with all memberships expiring on (June 30th).
Section 7. The fiscal year for the club will be (July 1st through June 30th).
Section 8. Each candidate for membership shall be proposed and seconded by two active members in good standing. The Board of Directors shall act upon each proposal by vote and two negative votes shall disqualify any candidate.
Section 9. In the event that any member of the club shall commit any act which reflects discredit or disrepute thereon or shall refuse or neglect to comply with the rules and regulations adopted by the Board of Directors or the duly appointed officers, such member shall be subject to suspension or expulsion after ten days written notice and the right to be heard, by a vote of two-thirds of the Board of Directors at any regular meeting or special meeting called for such purpose.
Section 10. The annual meeting of the Subparboys shall be held at the Club Championship held the 3rd Sunday in June. The Board of Directors shall provide for the holding of such other meetings as may be deemed necessary or desirable and they shall call special meetings upon written petition signed by not less than ten percent of the membership.
Section 11. A legal quorum at any meeting shall be seven members present in person or by proxy. Each active member in good standing shall be entitled to one vote.
Section 12. All membership fees and dues shall be established by the Board of Directors from time to time in such amounts as they deem to be adequate to operate and maintain the club. Members shall be liable for dues until their written resignation has been received and accepted. All monies collected shall accrue to the benefit of the membership.

Article IV - BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Section 1. The Board of Directors shall consist of three members in good standing of the Subparboys and they shall exercise all powers of management of the club not specifically excepted by these By-Laws.
Section 2. At least five weeks prior to the Annual Meeting, the Board of Directors shall appoint a nominating committee consisting of five members of the organization. At least four weeks prior to the Annual Meeting, this committee shall submit to the Board and shall post upon the club bulletin board a list of nominees to fill any vacancies for the term of office beginning on the day of the meeting. Names of other members in good standing may be nominated by petition signed by a least three members and submitted to the Board at least two weeks prior to the Annual Meeting. At least one week prior to the Annual Meeting, a list of all candidates nominated shall be mailed to each member at their last known address and a copy of such list shall be posted on the club bulletin board.
Section 3. Voting shall be written ballot and those names receiving the greatest number of votes cast shall be declared to be elected. The Board shall appoint a committee of three judges who are not members of the Board or candidates for election to supervise the election.
Section 4. The Board of Directors shall meet at such times and places as they may select and a majority of the Board shall constitute a quorum at any meeting.
Section 5. In the case of any vacancy through death, resignation, disqualification or other cause, the remaining directors, even though less than a quorum, may elect a successor by majority vote to hold office for the unexpired term of the director whose place shall be vacant, and until the election of his successor.

Article V - OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES
Section 1. Within ten days after the annual meeting and election, the Board of Directors shall meet and elect the officers.
Section 2. The officers shall consist of president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer, and their duties shall be such as their titles would indicate or such as may be assigned to them respectively from time to time.
Section 3. The Board of Directors shall authorize and define the powers and duties of all committees. Chairmen and members of all committees shall be appointed by the president, and the president shall be an ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating committee.
Section 4. The following committees shall be appointed each year, with such other committees as the president may deem necessary or advisable:
Tournament Committee to arrange and schedule with the management of any golf course as necessary, and conduct all intra-club and inter-club competitions.
Handicap Committee composed primarily of members with the responsibility to establish a fair and proper system of handicaps in accordance with procedures set forth in the USGA Handicap System Manual.
Membership Committee to investigate and act upon all applications for membership and to recommend appropriate action to the Board of Directors.
Social Committee to encourage and arrange social entertainment features and events for special occasions.

Article VI - AMENDMENTS TO BY-LAWS
Section 1. The Board of Directors shall have the power to repeal or amend any of these By-Laws provided that such action shall not be effective until approved by a majority vote of the members of the “Subparboys” club at a meeting held in accordance with the provisions contained herein.
Subparboys Golf Club Rules & Regulations:
Section 1 – Player Guidelines - Rules
a) The game of golf is one that requires each individual player to practice absolute honesty for the benefit of themselves, their fellow players, and more importantly the integrity of the game.
b) All members are expected to keep their own scores and to validate those scores at the end of every round they play. Only individual attested score cards will be accepted.
c) Any member may submit any score card from a “casual” round to the Handicap Committee for entry into the USGA approved handicapping system as long as the course played is a USGA certified course and the card is signed by the member. Once a member’s handicap is established with the USGA, they may also enter their scores after playing in the kiosks provided by the host club (usually located in the pro shop). A “casual round” is defined as any round not sanctioned by the club.
d) During a round of tournament golf, any member who has a question about a ruling for a particular shot is expected to ask a fellow player for guidance and to proceed as advised. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the player to record his/her score properly. Every member of the Subparboys Golf Club is expected to read and understand the Rules of Golf as published by the USGA in conjunction with the R&A of Great Britain. Copies of the Official Rules of Golf will be provided to each member upon entry into the club and be updated on an annual basis.
e) In accordance with Article 3, Section 10, when playing in a club tournament, any member who submits an incorrect score card will be disqualified from the event. A second offense will result in a warning from the Tournament Committee. A third offense will result in suspension and possible loss of membership.
f) The Subparboys Golf Club has no dress code. All members are asked to adhere to individual golf course guidelines in regards to appropriate dress.
g) In addition to the Official Rules of Golf, each member is expected to learn, practice and adhere to common golf etiquette.
h) After membership to the Subparboys Golf Club, the Board of Directors will track participation to determine which members remain “active” and in good standing in accordance with Article 3, Section 3 of the club by-laws.
Section 2 - Tournament Guidelines
a) The Subparboys Tournament Committee is responsible for arranging regular Club Tournaments (approximately every 6 weeks) and an annual Club Championship. All tournaments are to be “medal” events in accordance with the Official Rules of Golf. This means that all members who participate will be deemed “players” and not “competitors” as would be the case in match play.
b) Tournament entry is limited to members who are in good standing with the club in accordance with Article III, Section 3 of the club bylaws
c) Due to the difficulty of obtaining multiple tee times, participation in each Club Tournament is limited to the available spots in each foursome.
d) First choice to participate will be awarded to the member who secured the tee times at whatever course the Club Tournament is being held.
e) Second and subsequent choice for participation will be awarded to those active members in good standing based on seniority with the club with the senior members having first right of refusal.

All play is governed by the Official Rules of Golf

14 club limit (including putter but not limiting other golf equipment like ball retrievers, etc.)
You must play your ball “as it lies”. You are not permitted to touch or move your ball (other than to make a positive identification) or otherwise improve your lie unless a one stroke penalty is taken for an “unplayable lie” (relief 1 club length no closer to the hole).
The rules of golf state that any shot that goes out of bounds (marked by white stakes) must be hit again from the spot where it was first struck (this is what is meant as “stroke & distance” or basically a two shot penalty).
If you are unsure if your ball landed in bounds or not, it is permissible to hit a “provisional ball” and then go look for your first shot. If the first one is found O.B., you must refer to the penalty in #4. You may only play the provisional ball if you were not able to find or identify yours. You would be playing your 3rd shot from the tee if hitting the provisional (one out, penalty back, hit three…)
Hazards are defined by red stakes and unlike O.B. you may hit your ball from there (if possible) without penalty. However, you may only take one club in and you may not “ground” your club in the hazard.
Lateral hazards are also marked by yellow stakes and you may also hit your ball from inside under the same rules as #6.
Anyone who hits their ball in a hazard may opt to take an “unplayable lie” (almost automatic in a water hazard) but must take a stroke penalty to remove the ball from the hazard and drop it at shoulder height at a spot as close to the point of entry into the hazard as is possible to determine. You may draw an imaginary line anywhere from a spot 2 club lengths from where your ball entered the hazard all the way back to where you first hit the ball.
The player furthest away from the hole always hit first. This rule applies from tee to green.
Each group in our championship tournament will have one player designated as a “rules official” whose purpose is to resolve rules questions or possible violations and help the individuals in their group record the correct score on the official score cards. (Group 1, Mike Amaya; Group 2, John Graham; Group 3, Dan Sawada; Group 4 is exempt as these are guests whose scores will not be submitted to the tournament committee for purposes of determining the Club Champion)

The Champion's Dinner will commence directly after the golf outing at Mike Amaya's Timeshare # 1609 & #1610 in the Marriott's Shadow Ridge complex. Dinner will include Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, and BBQ Chicken as the main course. Although Soda's and Water will be provided, this will be a BYOB for any alcoholic beverages. A $10.00 donation would be greatly appreciated since most of the food is coming out of our personal pockets. You are welcome to invite your friends and family.

If you are staying over Saturday night, an evening social is being planned at the Agua Caliente Casino “Canyon Lounge” located at 32250 Bob Hope Drive. There will dancing and a live band performing this night.
